We’d always been to the CBD before; K even lived there at some point early in his childhood. But when we moved there in April, we really got to experience its true essence. On our way to and from work, or as an attempt to take a break from our apartment, we walked through its streets almost religiously. It’s easy to get lost in the city. You see this every day in the faces and eyes of the many you walk past daily, living up to our survival instincts. The city always seems fixed in a constant state of bustle with everything is moving in all directions without a care.
K being the visual person he is, he became fascinated with this unending quality of Johannesburg and this motion that defines it. Joburg in motion is an on-going project that aims to bring coherence to the city’s haphazardness and the people that inhabit it. This is the first series of images from the one hundred that will comprise the book in the next two years.
