Who is Nelisiwe and Ofentse Mwase? (Full Interview)

I met this Mad About Filming Couple, Nelisiwe and Ofentse Mwase, over a year ago as a runner on one A-Reece’s Couldn’t which Featured Emtee. And throughout the year, I got a chance to work with couple closely on several of their productions as Behind The Scenes Photographer, Editor and Spark. With this, I got a sense of who they were, their workflow and how their relationship played a huge role in what they did.

Neliswe is a writer, producer, motivational-speaker, entrepreneur, mother and wife. Her husband, Ofentse Mwase, on the other hand, is a cinematographer, editor and director. Together, the couple has created some of the most iconic visuals for artists such as Emtee, Sjava, Benchmarq, A-Reece, Miss Pru, Fifi Cooper, Demi Vee, Tweezy and more. Their work has earned them several awards and nominations in the process, with nominations such as Best Music Video in Zimbabwe, and the Metro Fm Awards, and walking away with Best Video at the South African Hip Hop Awards 2016.

I had a chance to sit down with the couple on the 31st of December 2016 and we recapped the year’s highlights and frustrations.

Check out their full interview as they walk us through their year (2016) with all the thrills and spills that come with video and filmmaking.

Nelisiwe and Ofentse Mwase are great mentors and creatives that I continually draw inspiration from, be it creatively, or in my personal life and relationship. They always find ways to push and stretch me and my creative process, whether it be story-telling, photography, video, editing, or something as simple as understanding how light works. They are a pair that I continue drawing inspiration from as I progress throughout my career as a photographer and editor, I hope you do too.

This is truly inspirational, to see our peers focused, committed and succeeding as a brand , a couple and as black parents. Hoping Mr. and Mrs become a true force to be reckoned with in this industry, both locally and abroad!
